Navan Town Centre Expansion Area
A new sustainable and accessible town centre for Navan
Meath County Council has recently commenced the preparation of the Navan Town centre extension and a potential location for the future Navan Central Rail Station, and are now looking for the publics input.
The lands are located off the Trim Road, Dan Shaw Road and the Carraige Road, as well as further north around pairc Tailteann. These lands are zoned in the Meath County Development Plan 2021-2027 for primarily ‘Commercial Town or Village Centre’, mixed uses as well as community and open space. They predominantly include the areas of Masterplan 6 and 9 as identified in the Development Plan.

Navan Rail Line
The area is centred around the proposed reinstatement of the Navan rail line (which follows the Beaufort greenway in the bottom-right of the above map) and the Navan Central Rail Station, located just off the Trim Road (where work has recently been completed on clearing the area). The land in question has remained largely derelict and unused for the last number of years. The rail station and a civic plaza in this new urban quarter will be a focal point in any future development, with commercial uses being complementary to the core retail area of the town.
The Masterplan
The plan aims to promote an economically vibrant and environmentally sustainable town, with a distinctive and attractive public realm, and high-quality services for all. It will reverse private car commuting trends and support quality town centre living, ultimately drawing more investment and visitors to the town. It incorporates potential improvements such as new public plazas, community facilities, green areas, better footpaths and cycleways, and better sustainable connectivity around the town.
