Boyne Valley Tourism Strategy 2024-2030
The new Boyne Valley Tourism Strategy was recently launched and sets out the vision for the development of tourism across Meath and South Louth over the next 7 years
The new Boyne Valley Tourism Strategy – which sets out the vision for the development of tourism across Meath – was recently launched and it’s brilliant to see greenways and outdoor amenities feature so prominently. Greenways are a huge draw and we are fortunate to have so many in the region which have enormous tourist potential.
With the Boyne Greenway, the Boyne Valley to Lakelands Greenway, the Royal Canal Greenway, and the East Coast Trail (linking Balbriggan to Drogheda), the Boyne Valley region is set to be a must-visit greenway destination. With Navan at the heart of the Boyne Valley and having entry points to both the Boyne Greenway and the Boyne Valley to Lakelands Greenway, we believe it has huge potential as a greenway hub destination and we hope to see this developed in the coming years.
The greenways mentioned in the Strategy are:
- The Boyne Greenway, Drogheda to Oldbridge
- The Boyne Greenway, Navan to Oldbridge
- The Royal Canal Greenway
- The Boyne Valley to Lakelands Greenway
- Pathfinder Navan to Trim Cycle Scheme
- The East Coast Greenway, Fingal border to Drogheda
It’s also interesting to see how the Tourism Strategy document refers to the ‘The East Coast Greenway (i.e. the East Coast Trail linking Balbriggan to Drogheda) as “currently at the first stage of design.” The East Coast Trail has enormous tourist potential for the region as it would form a network of greenways. It would connect the Boyne Greenway at Drogheda and the extension out to Mornington. It would then be possible to travel from the heart of Dublin to Malahide, Donabate, Rush, Skerries, Balbriggan, then further north to Mornington, Drogheda, and all the way to Navan and all the attractions of the Boyne Valley. With plans to connect the Boyne Greenway to the Royal Canal Greenway near Longwood, it would open up a loop which would be the best network of greenways in the country.
